Apparently, rumors of Quentin Tarantino’s demise have been greatly exaggerated. The director’s bold and bloody World War II smackdown Inglourious Basterds (Weinstein Company) was no. 1 at the box office in its debut week and no. 2 this week, with an impressive $73.8 million total gross. But more importantly, the Brad Pitt starring adventure, which follows Jewish American soldiers who hunt down and scalp Nazis, is proof that remakes can actually be cool (The Italian version of Bastards was originally released in 1978).
