Jay-Z is a big hit in the UK, so much so, he’s been tapped to headline the annual Isle of Wight festival.

News of the rapper’s upcoming appearance broke today. Other performers include The Strokes, Pink, and Blondie.

“Ever since I heard the first Strokes album, I’ve wanted them for the Isle of Wight,” the festival’s promoter John Giddings, told Britain’s The Guardian. “Jay-Z and Pink are two of the best live acts I have ever seen and the Blondie hits speak for themselves. I can’t wait.”

The performance will mark two years since Jay’s infamous appearance at the Glastonbury Festival, where he dissed Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher, after Gallagher shared his disdain over Jay being put on the bill. “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” Gallagher told the press. “If you start to break it then people aren’t going to go. I’m sorry, but Jay-Z? No chance… I’m not having hip-hop at Glastonbury.”

Early October, Jay admonished Noel’s brother, Liam Gallagher, to give him a call.

“I hear Snoop Dogg might be teaming up with Noel,” Jay said. “If that’s the case then I would love to work with Liam… When you have two artists like us in a room just throwing about ideas you come up with something brilliant fairly easily. I don’t know what he is up to now but he can give me a call.”

Isle of Wight is scheduled for June 11-13 at Seaclose Park, Newport, Isle of Wight. –Linda Hobbs
