The First Video Game You Need This Year

Still wondering how to spend all those gift cards you copped over Christmas break? Look no further than Bayonetta, the first video game (available on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 today) you absolutely need in your life this year. Developed by the creator of Devil May Cry and Viewtiful Joe, the premise goes a little something like this: You’re a witch named Bayonetta who wakes up after being buried at the bottom of a lake for 500 years. From there? Well, your guess is as good as ours. But here’s what we do know: Judging by the game’s demo, it’s packed with action (and, judging by the M rating, a whole lotta blood, gore and partial nudity, too!). And if you’re as depressed as we are about the college football bowl season ending this week, there’s a good chance you could use a little of that in your life right now. Say hello to Bayonetta. —Chris Yuscavage
