Dear (Baby) Mama: Hip-Hop’s 10 Best Baby Mama References
Behind every great man, there’s a great woman. At least, that’s what they say. But after listening to them for the last few years, we’re pretty sure that mantra doesn’t apply to rappers. Because while there have been several great ones that have sustained relationships throughout their the course of their careers (LL Cool J and Ice-T come to mind), there have also been plenty that have gone through absolute hell as the result of a woman (helloooo, Nas!). As a result, rappers haven’t been shy in recent years about sharing their baby mama struggles with the world. It’s actually become pretty common for rappers to devote portions of their lyrics to their own baby mamas, their enemies’ baby mamas, and baby mamas in general.
With Mother’s Day just around the corner (it’s this Sunday, for those of you who like waiting ’til the last minute), we decided to put together a list of some of hip-hop’s best references to baby mamas in recent history. Then, we rated each of them to reflect the amount of baby mama drama that’s present behind the lyrics. Get ready to get caught up in it. —Chris Yuscavage
