Crush On You: Lil Kim’s Most Notorious Beefs (Pg. 4)

Opponent: Naturi from 3LW

Cause: Kim didn’t like the Biggie biopic, Notorious, or the fact that Naturi was selected to play her in the film. “I would have never picked Naturi,” she said. “She doesn’t have a Lil Kim aura at all! She looks nothing like I looked back then…Never once did she contact me for input or to get a feel of me for the character. A ‘true’ actress would contact the source to be the best they can be in portraying someone. That told me right there, she wasn’t right for the part.”

Outcome: Naturi claimed that she did reach out to Kim but got no response and kept her cool about the situation. And the story pretty much went away after the flick’s opening weekend anyway.

Winner: When it came to Notorious, Kim was a hater from the beginning. So it’s Naturi—and her role in the film—FTW!

Opponent: Eve

Cause: We’re not exactly sure, but on her 2003 album, La Bella Mafia, Kim sounded like she was trying to assert herself as the Queen Bee once again. So she took a bunch of generic shots at female MCs before referencing one female rapper’s stripper past on “Came Back For You.” Any guesses on who that might have been directed at (NSFW status, folks!)?

Outcome: In 2007, Eve admitted that her and Kim were not on speaking terms for a number of years, until they sat near one another at an industry event. “[We were] not speaking, for whatever reason,” she says. “When my publicist told me we would be sitting across from each other, I was like, ‘Are you serious?’ There wasn’t any real beef, but I just didn’t want any tension.”

Winner: Draw. Not many people caught Kim’s subliminal on “Came Back For You” and those that did didn’t seem to care. Eve took the high road and they squashed it before it turned into anything major.
