Deadline Hollywood is reporting that Lucasfilm will announce plans to convert the Star Wars saga to stereoscopic 3D this week. Expect to see the prequels to hit theaters first, and the original trilogy should soon follow. The Phantom Menace is expected to be released theatrically in 2012 and while no dates have yet been announced for the other films.  Star Wars creator George Lucas says he’s wanted to do this “for years and years and years” but that the technology didn’t measure up, so the 3D conversion was delayed. But Lucas says he was inspired by the successes of Avatar and Alice in Wonderland to bring his cult classics to the big screen once again. —Ronke Idowu Reeves
