ο Name some of your strengths.
I’m on call with my shit. I’ll work anywhere at any moment. I’m not concerned about the setting, sound quality. I can be in a bathroom and if I have an idea, I’m going to record it on my phone. [Having an idea] in the middle of sex is always funny. I’ll say ‘Gimme a second’ and go into another room or completely leave… definitely not a procrastinator, haha.
ο Are you a good multitasker?
I’m very scatterbrained, but I’m getting better now. I can brush my teeth and put lotion on at the same time, haha.
ο Describe a career situation where you failed, but bounced back.
Showcasing for Lyor Cohen, [then-Def Jam CEO]. I must’ve been 14 and completely… just didn’t show up as a performer. I was very nervous; I remember feeling empty when Lyor shook my hand after. I just said “fuck it”; I knew what I needed to work on and believed at some point [that] everything was going to work out.
ο Have you ever been in trouble with the law?
I went to jail for a day. It was stupid, the cops were assholes. I pulled over with my hazard lights so I could use the phone, trying to obey the law. There was a fire hydrant five feet away. [The police] ran all my shit and saw I had a warrant from not showing up to court. They arrested me around 11:15 p.m. and I was there the next day till 8 p.m. My record’s clean as a cloud now.
ο If you could choose any fictional character to be, who would you choose and why?
Luke Skywalker—I can use the force on any woman that I want. No, change that to Corbin Dallas from The Fifth Element. He’s a badass and he ends up with The Fifth Element, Leeloo, and she’s bad as fuck.
ο Define success.
Meeting one’s goals without compromising one’s character.
