Chris ‘Kazi’ Rolle x Together Apart Present ‘Straight Talk, No Chaser’
On the heels of the funny (and a bit controversial) ‘Love Hurts’ Pepsi ad depicting black love, inspiring speaker and artist Chris “Kazi” Rolle is serving up a sobering dose of honesty about black man. Presented by Together Apart, Rolle’s relationship academy, “Straight Talk, No Chaser” brings out six men (some married, some single) for a raw, uncensored talk with an all female audience about the hearts and minds of men.
“You gotta be the change you wanna see in the world, so I heard the call and seen that it was an issue,” says Chris about his method for this project. “I just wanted to do something about it.”
In music videos, rap songs and books such as, Steve Harvey’s Act Like A Lady, Think Like A Man, black women hear the voices of many black men telling them how to conduct themselves in order to do away with their single statuses. However, Kazi is making it less about how women should be and more about how men are.
“It’s [usually] the blame game, but what I want to do with this event is have more self-accountability,” says the social entrepreneur. “That’s why the men are not telling women what they have to do. We’re just saying, ‘This is who I am.'”
Wanting to providing something outside the pages of a “self-help” book and beyond the stereotypical images of the media, Kazi is giving women a no-holds-barred live convo with men who are confident, introspective and able to candidly give the understanding that women seek.
“It’s hard to not receive what somebody is telling you if they are saying their own stuff. How can you front on 50/50?”
It’s very obvious that the issues between single black men and women come into play when a lack of understanding and compromise between one another is overwhelmingly present. There’s no shortage of black men! It’s simply time for black women to hear the men and accept their honest truths.
So there you have it, vixens! This is your official e-vite to a live convo with the guys! Meet the panelists below:
