Today In Women’s History Month: 10 Movie Roles That Weren’t For Black Women
Hollywood is a fickle place, even more than we realize. A lot of times, some of our favorite actors who score leading roles weren’t the original choices, especially when it comes to people of color.
Black Enterprise comprised an interesting list of movies that starred Black women where the part wasn’t originally meant for them. For example, Grace Jones wasn’t meant to play “Zula” in Conan The Destroyer, Queen Latifah’s role of “Matron Mama Morton” in Chigago was written for a white woman, and obviously, Gabrielle Union as “Alice Cramden” in The Honeymooners was a originally for a white woman until they decided to make the cast all Black. It’s an interesting list. Head over to Black Enterprise to see who else made it.
