WEEN Academy Auditions Announced; Angie Martinez, Rocsi, Mashonda & More Show Support

If you didn’t already know, March is Women’s History Month and to kick it off the Women in Entertainment Empowerment Network (aka WEEN) announced today The WEEN Academy auditions. The auditions will take place Saturday, March 5, 2011 at 9 a.m. EST at the Actor’s Playhouse on 100 7th Avenue South in New York City.

The WEEN Academy is a 6-week crash course in the entertainment business with celebrities and entertainment industry executives. All Academy students must audition and compete before a WEEN panel of judges. Then, sixty hand picked students will be admitted into the Academy. The WEEN Academy represents young women 18 – 22 years of age. And don’t feel discouraged if you’re falling on hard times. Tuition for each student will be fully sponsored by WEEN and program partners. Anheuser-Busch, Inc. is the presenting sponsor and Emmis Communications/HOT 97 FM is the exclusive radio partner of The 2011 WEEN Academy.

A host of familiar names, including Valeisha Butterfield, Chair of WEEN, Stephen Hill, President of Music Programming for Black Entertainment Television, Angie Martinez, radio personality for HOT 97 FM, Rocsi Diaz, co-host of BET’s 106th and Park, Dawn Richard of Diddy’s Dirty Money, Lauren Lake, WEEN co-founder and television host, Alesha Renee, actor and television personality, Mashonda, singer/songwriter and co-star of VH1’s Love and Hip-Hop, and others are scheduled participants. Entertainment leaders Russell Simmons, Kevin Liles, and Sylvia Rhone and Grammy award-winning singer/songwriter Michelle Williams are participants of the launch of this dynamic program.

Chair Valeisha Butterfield said in a statement “The WEEN Academy was developed based on an increasing demand for strong emerging leaders in the entertainment industry,” she went on to say “WEEN answered the call and we are proud to introduce the first entertainment curriculum by and for entertainment executives and hope to discover the next mogul.”

Young women accepted into the WEEN Academy will be professionally trained by experts in the entertainment industry through a series of professional and ethical challenges each week. These challenges include photo and video shoots, charitable projects as well as an intense educational curriculum in business development, talent management, event planning, entertainment law, marketing and being an on-air talent.

Graduates of the program will receive WEEN Academy certification, internship placement and a WEEN mentor for twelve months to measure success.
