Looks like the ladies from the 1995 female empowerment movie Waiting To Exhale will be returning for a sequel next year. Author Terry McMillan of the original book and movie adaptation announced plans for another movie in the series on her Twitter page (@MsTerryMcMillan). The film will be based on the follow up novel, Getting To Happy.

She tweeted “We are working on the script for HAPPY. Will know in about a month or so when we’ll begin production. Probably on screens in 2012.” Leading actresses from the first film Angela Bassett and Loretta Devine have already been rumored to showing interest in reprising their roles. The real question is whether Whitney Houston will be back to round up the bunch. Neither her or Lela Rochon have confirmed or denied interest in the next film. Are you interested in seeing the original Girlfriends again or is this film 17 years too late?
