Can we say cold-blooded? Teenager Tyler Hadley was arrested on two counts of first-degree murder for the brutal slayings of his parents Blake and Mary Jo Hadley.

According to Port St. Lucie, Florida police, the 17-year-old native bludgeoned his parents to death with a hammer and then proceeded to invite over 60 friends via Facebook to a house party while the bodies laid in a bedroom. The party is said to have lasted from about 9 p.m. until the early hours of Sunday morning.

A representative from the Port St. Lucie police department, Capt. Don Kryak, said that they acted anonymously and visited the home Sunday morning where Tyler greeted and initially told them his parents were out of town. Police entered the house and found the bodies on the locked master bedroom floor. The bodies were partially covered with towels, books and files, and a hammer believed to be the murder weapon laid out between them.

“It was a merciless killing,” says Kryak. “He had the party after the homicides took place. The invitation had gone out before the murders.

Hadley made his first appearance before the judge this morning, however, due to Hadley’s age, he will not have to worry about facing the death penalty if convicted for the murder of his parents, which was confirmed by the State Attorney’s Office.

The Chief Assistant State Attorney Tom Bakkedahl, the maximum punishment is overruled due to the U.S. Supreme Court decision that “it would be cruel and unusual to subject minors to the death penalty.” If he’s eventually convicted of first-degree murderthe charges prosecutors intend to seek from a grand juryHadley could be ordered to serve a maximum penalty of life in prison.

In the next month, prosecutors will convene a grand jury to seek indictments of first-degree murder against the 17-year-old Port St. Lucie youth. —Shabazz
