The Mis-Vixenfication of Solange Knowles
As little sister to megastar Beyonce Knowles, Solange Knowles has perfected the art of being an individual through her style. The mother-of-one unceremoniously ditched the long weaves and skin-tight dress uniform but still kept her sassy attitude and fashion sense. Whether picking up son Jules in a long blouse, denim shorts, and chunky heels or DJing in a flaming-hot Roberto Cavalli gown, Solange has mesmerized us with her bold and unapologetic style–word to stylist Charles Wade.
Here are 5 reasons we keep wanting more (now can we get another album please?):
1. She thinks outside the relaxer box.
She’s not the first celebrity to proudly rock natural hair, but there’s something about seeing someone transition right in front of our eyes. From her “Big Chop” to her protective styles like braids and a huge afro, Solange’s hair is as carefree and fun as her attitude.
2. She embraces vintage fashions.
Today’s trends are fun, but there’s nothing like the sultry silhouettes of the 70’s, and the fun colorful looks of the 90’s. Solange is not afraid to venture down memory lane–channeling our most fashionable decades with draped silk gowns and a wild ‘fro, or bright orange pants and thick braids.
3. She isn’t a “label whore.”
Solange rocks everything from Opening Ceremony to Alexander Wang. Her wardrobe is chic and refined yet approachable and down-to-earth.
4. She isn’t afraid of standing out.
When Selita Ebanks and Cassie showed up to the Carol’s Daughter Monoi Collection launch in tight dresses, Solange chose a yellow suit. Unsurprisingly, we couldn’t keep our eyes off of her.
5. She experiments with makeup.
Whether it’s orange lips or boxed eyeshadow at the 2011 MET Gala, Solange is as creative with makeup as she is with writing songs.
