Gloria Govan Talks Matt Barnes’ Style, Fave NY Fashion Week Shows
UPTOWN cameras captured a heavily scheduled day with the Govan sisters, Laura and Gloria. While following the star twosome of Basketball Wives: LA, VIBE Vixen got a chance to chat with Matt Barnes’ right hand lady about New York Fashion Week, Matt Barnes’ fashion swag and her dream designing collaboration. -Niki McGloster
How important is style and fashion in your every day life?
Fashion is extremely important, especially when you’re in the spotlight. Every look–shoes, accessories, makeup, hair–has got to be on point. Celebs and public figures are constantly under scrutiny, so looking fly at all times is basically a must.
What was your favorite show during Fashion Week thus far?
I loved the SACHIKA and Vivienne Tam shows. Both lines represented very well, and I definitely will be buying pieces from both lines.
Does Matt Barnes get involved in fashion and style, or do you find yourself dressing him for certain events?
Matt actually has a nice sense of fashion now. He wasn’t always that way, but when he gets stuck, he’ll ask my opinion. And I love that he is trying new things. Like scarves, ties, different colors. He has stepped his fashion game up 100 percent since when we first started dating [Laughs]. He has even come out with his own clothing collection of men’s clothing called “Love The Truth” which will be available soon. This was his first Fashion week, and he even walked in the Premium Lounge show by Indashio. I think he really enjoyed both, so I could see him getting involved more in the future.
If you could design a clothing collection for one fashion house, which would it be? What would the line look like? Who would it be for?
I would love to design or help design a line. I think I would do something for little boys. Having twin boys, I find it so hard to get them cute, affordable clothes. I would love to collaborate with LAMB. I think Gwen’s style would have a different edge that would translate well into little boys’ clothes. And if I had to do something for myself or women, I would collaborate with Vivienne Tam and her new yoga-inspired line. I like comfy clothes especially on those days that I’m just running errands.
