Letting Him Go: The Soundtrack
Breakups are one of the harshest realities women face throughout life. The moment the man you love tells you he’d rather live without you, your eyes swell with water, your heart strains to remain unbroken and you call up your closest besties for some girl time. As the days go on, the saddest songs of any genre become the score of your life’s movie while the good moments of your relationship flash across your mind like a Scorsese film.
It’s difficult to detach yourself from a love you’ve known for quite some time. But amidst the heartache, there’s a light at the end of it all. You don’t see it, right? What do you do now, you ask?
You let him go one day at a time! Grab your tissues and read — We’ve got something you need to hear to get you through!
Listen to every sad song in the book!
There’s a lot of tears. Whether you publicly display the pain your heart is going through, it’s happening. The only way to mend a broken heart is to let it break completely and rebuild. So yes, you are going to listen to Mariah Carey’s “Breakdown,” Ne-Yo’s “So Sick” or Toni Braxton’s “Un-Break My Heart” (ooh, and don’t forget “Another Sad Love Song”) just to lay in bed and sulk. The songs of the late 90s, early 2000s, somehow, allow you to deal with the heart-wrenching pain most sincerely. As good as it feels to get it out, we advise you to take only a few days of the wallowing in self-pity. You’ve got to start the process of moving on.
Stay away from his Facebook and Twitter!
You may be feeling better, but you still miss him like crazy. Do not become Nancy Drew and go snooping around his social networks to see who he recently followed or added as a friend. We know, we know… You want to just be apart of whatever he’s got going on and you’re still married to him socially. However, getting your panties in a bunch over his online presence will only stall the healing process. Trust us! The questioning will ensue and you’re right back where you started (think Brandy’s “Who Is She To You”). Frankly, your heart won’t be able to handle the comments left under the change in relationship status or the tweet he sent out about partying. Just let him be…
