How Big Is Too Big?
We don’t care what they say, size DOES matter!
Get your minds out of the gutter, ladies. We’re talking about the size of your earrings. Oversized earrings make a great statement accessory, but they can cause serious damage to your earlobes. The weight causes the holes to stretch and can leave unsightly scars. In extreme cases, the lobe can even split.
Celebs like Alicia Keys, Beyoncé and Jessica Szohr—even our First Lady—have been spotted wearing shoulder-skimming pairs. Women outside of the limelight are big fans as well. So much so that surgeons have reported an increase in requests for reconstructive surgery from women whose ears have torn in two or sagged.
Some are also taking preemptive steps to strengthen their earlobes. In a procedure called earlobe rejuvenation, or a “lobe lift,” doctors inject a synthetic compound called Restylane, typically used for lip augmentation, to plump up the earlobes and make them stronger for up to one year.
The fact of the matter is that ears simply aren’t made to withstand such weight. As with anything else, moderation is key.
What price are you willing to pay for fashion? Would you ever get a “lobe lift”?
