Did Katy Perry Diss Beyonce and Shakira?

Katy Perry recently sat down with BBC Radio 1 for an interview, where she discussed a future musical collaboration with Rihanna.

“We’ve collaborated on a lot of things, but just not songs yet,” Perry said. “It’s one of those things that’s got so much build up that we have to deliver.”

And then she said something that caught us off guard.

“I want it to be like that Eurythmics and Aretha Franklin song ‘Sisters Are Doin’ It for Themselves,’ not [Shakira and Beyoncé’s] ‘Beautiful Liar’. . .How disappointed would you be if that song came out and it’s no good? Sometimes you have to wait for greatness.”

Wait. What?

We’re going to give Katy the benefit of the doubt on this one and assume she meant no shade. In the meantime, we’ll be waiting on that classic duet. —Stephanie Long
