Drake Refuses to Jump on Dance Music Trend: “[That] Stuff Just Doesn’t Work”
Even with dance music on the up-and-up, Drake refuses to change up his sound and follow the mainstream music trend.
In a recent interview with NME Magazine, the Toronto native shut down any speculation that he may be working with the likes of David Guetta anytime soon: “For me, the David Guetta stuff just doesn’t work,” he said. “I don’t really wanna go there. There’s other artists, that’s their sound.”
While his Young Money counterpart Nicki Minaj has embraced the dance sound, working with Guetta on hits like “Turn Me On,” Drizzy explained that he doesn’t see that avenue as a way to gain global appeal.
“They feel in order to thrive internationally that they gotta do straightforward, four on the flour, David Guetta, Pitbull music,” he told NME. ‘
‘For me, I’d rather go to somebody like Jamie XX and tell him, ‘Look, I really wanna turn the club upside down, but I wanna do it with integrity, with soul.'”
