‘Avengers’ Opens With $200 Million Weekend, Breaks Box Office Records

The Avengers has knocked all other films out of the box and made history with its $200.3 million in opening sales, making it the highest grossing US debut ever!

The film officially stole the spot from the last installment of the Harry Potter series, which previously reigned at number one with opening sales of $169.2 million.

So far, the Avengers has racked in a total of $641.8 million globally in only 12 days, already outselling the lifetime totals of Captain America: The First Avenger, Thor, Iron Man and Iron Man 2 which grossed $364 million, $449 million, $585 million and $624 million respectively.

The movie also holds the records for the first film to pass $200 million in sales in only three days in domestic box offices as well as the biggest Saturday gross of all time.

Avengers is now on track to reach a whopping $1 billion in global sales.
