Newsweek Names Obama ‘First Gay President’
President Obama covers Newsweek magazine with the headline “The First Gay President.”
The cover features a shot of Obama with a rainbow-colored halo over his head and is part of a cover story written by Andrew Sullivan, a self-proclaimed political conservative and gay man.
After Obama announced his support of gay marriage, Sullivan drafted the piece analyzing the president’s decision to back gay marriage.
In the midst of Time’s controversialbreastfeeding cover, Newsweek’s editor Tina Brown views this as a challenge.
“When Tina saw the Time cover, she laughed and said, ‘Let the games begin,'” a Newsweek spokesperson told the New York Post.
Newsweek’s controversial Obama issue will be available May 21.
