Vixen Chat: Atlanta Falcons Player Ray Edwards Dishes on Groupie Encounters and The Perfect Woman
What’s the dating scene like for a pro-athlete? Do woman usually throw themselves at you, or do you do most of the initiating?
It’s kinda 50/50. It depends on what mood I’m in, because right now, I’m really kinda chillin’. I guess that equates to women coming to introduce themselves to me. I mean, I’m open.
Are you out on the club scene a lot, or are you more of a homebody?
I’m a laid back kinda guy. I might check out a lounge or a comedy show, movies or restaurants. I’m not really a club guy.
Describe your ideal woman.
I definitely like a nice body. A woman that looks like she spends some time in the gym and carries herself like a lady. I don’t mind you drinking, but you can’t be looking wasted and getting wasted in the club. Throwing the bottle up to your mouth and bringing it right back, that’s unattractive. Just carry yourself like a lady.
Do you appreciate a God-fearing woman?
Absolutely. You know, without God, I wouldn’t be where I am today. That’s definitely a big thing for me.
When meeting a woman, do you usually have your guard up, thinking maybe a female has a hidden agenda?
I never have my guard up. I always put my best foot forward and hopefully she’ll do the same and be genuine. But you know, after a while the true person comes out. Like Chris Rock said, you meet their representative in the first 60 to 90 days. That’s the sad thing.
Do you get recognized often by females?
I don’t think so. They might know who I am. I’ve been modeling, so maybe. A lot of females introduce themselves to me, and because I spend a lot of time in the gym and I’m so big, they figure he must play sports. I don’t usually tell them I play sports until we go on a date.
Describe the craziest groupie encounter you’ve ever experienced.
I don’t really think I’ve had anything crazy happen, just a lot of girls coming up to me. One girl came up to me running off stats and career history, I was like, Ooohkay [chuckles]. I don’t know if she was a fan or if she was trying to talk to me. It was crazy!
Before your football career, did you ever think you would be considered a sex symbol like you are now?
No, I’m a very humble guy. It’s flattering and I appreciate it, but I’m very down to earth. I’ve never considered myself a sex symbol. A lot of people told me, ‘You should model,” so I just took that up.
Has your attitude changed since you’ve started modeling? Do you think you’ve become a little cocky?
Not even because, like I said, I’m very God-fearing. He blessed me with my abilities and my looks, and just like he gave it to me, he can take it away. I’m very humble, very easy to approach. I just go with the flow.
Since you’ve started your modeling career, have you had any problems with women stalking you?
No, women just like to feel me up and I tell them, if I did that to you I would be going to jail [chuckles]. I’m just saying, you feel me but if I did that, you would be wanting to press charges.
You mentioned a few times that you were humble and down to earth, but do you like the attention? Do you like when woman come up to you and feel you up?
It doesn’t bother me, I just laugh. What I got that the next man ain’t got? I’m pretty sure we all got the same thing. It’s just funny to me that women are that bold.
What is your stance on being in a monogamist relationship? Do you think it’s realistic because of your career?
It’s absolutely realistic. Nothing can stop me from having a monogamist relationship. You either choose to be in a committed relationship or you don’t. That’s just the way it is. It is very possible.
What about temptation? Would you be able to resist?
Temptation is always thrown at you. It’s nothing hard about it. Everything in life is hard; me making it to where I am today was hard. I had to make sacrifices. Those are the things I had to do to be where I am today. I barely have friends now ’cause friends wanted to do things I didn’t want to do when I wanted to dedicate myself to my career. That’s the same thing with women. If you have a good woman at home, why would you worry about the next thing? The grass is never greener on the other side.
Do you have any regrets when it comes to your love life?
I don’t think it’s a regret, but I had to go away for college and I lost my high school sweetheart. She didn’t get accepted to the same college I got into. I regret that she couldn’t come with me.
