VIBE’s Daily Additions to the ‘Pod

1. Talib Kweli (Feat. Curren$y & Kendrick Lamar) – “Push Thru”
Curren$y steps it up on this slightly repetitive but minimally banging beat by S1. Talib has never slacked on the rhyming, but as of late has chosen to align himself with more popular newcomers, as he lets Kendrick poetically bombard the track with a lengthy final verse. This is a good look for all parties involved.

2. Mellow Hype – “La Bonita”
Hodgy Beats is sharpening his liquid swords lately, spitting a deft verse over this bouncing rhythmic track. Shout outs to Hispanic girls seem appropriate on here, with a beat that pairs Latin-influenced percussion with a fuzzy bassline and what sounds like an accordion. This is as melodic and catchy of a song as Mellow Hype has ever made.

3. Danny Brown – “Molly Ringwald”
If Clipse is coke rap, then Danny Brown is molly rap. He actually sounds like he’s tripping face when he raps so out of control sometimes. However, it always seems to work to his advantage, supplying this pounding beat with an infectious and aggressive intensity. Side note: Did anyone catch Wiz and Danny subtweeting each other yesterday?

4. Action Bronson – “Blackbird”
Dude can’t stop making dope music! Bronson and Thelonious Martin put this track together in a single studio session in Chicago with Action showcasing a couple different clever flows on this song, named after the exclusive Chicago restaurant.

5. Maino – “Molly”
What’s a week without some struggle raps from Maino? Speaking of that popular trippy girl, Maino hops on the classic Scarface “Mary Jane” instrumental for a dull beat jack. Unfortunately, this song might make some want to take mind-numbing drugs just to forget it.
