This new gameplay footage shows off a boatload of new levels from Nintendo’s newest game, New Super Mario Bros. 2, and it is stuff that you may have not yet seen.

Paying homage to the gaming goliath’s glorious past, the European launch trailer showcases the evolution from Super Mario Bros. 3 to the present. There is a lot of interesting things to watch in the clip, which you can see below, as the video demonstrates some of the game’s tougher platforming challenges. In addition to co-op and coin collecting, the upcoming platformer also features new items such as the Gold Block power-up, the Gold Ring collectible and Gold Mario, who can throw gold fireballs that transform blocks and enemies into coins.

Players who are into setting records and earning trophies will enjoy Coin Rush, a new high-score mode, in which marks can be shared and challenged via StreetPass. Additional Coin Rush levels will be added to the game as post-launch DLC. Exclusively for the Nintendo 3DS XL, New Super Mario Bros. 2 can be purchased digitally, and gamers will receive double Club Nintendo Points. Additionally, if you pre-order the title from GAME or Gamestation, users will net an exclusive gold coin case.

SPOILER WARNING: Before you watch the trailer, the last few seconds appear to offer a glimpse at what looks like a final boss fight. If you don’t want to see, don’t press play!

The game will hit EU on August 17; Australia on August 18; and us here in the US can expect it in stores on August 19. The 3DS XL will land in stores on the same day.
