Walmart Moves Black Friday Back

| November 8, 2012 - 10:52 pm

For years, the day after Thanksgiving has been the official start of the holiday shopping season. Black Friday is the day of crazy sales, long lines, and near-riots in all the big box stores. But Walmart is starting a new trend, opening their stores up at 8PM on Thanksgiving Day, making Black Friday a Thursday.

The move is bold – Walmart is banking on customers not being in a food coma after a day of turkey and tryptophan. They are also guaranteeing the availability of certain items, including the iPad 2 and certain flat-screen TVs.

The move is most likely a way to make more cash on an already competitive shopping day, but also as a way to counter the ease and convenience of shopping online. Will an extra day of deals convince you to leave your Thanksgiving feast and speed over to Walmart?
