Jabari Parker Decision To Come Next Week
A Jabari Parker decision is set for December 20th, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
Parker is one of the top-ranked high school players in the country, and graced the cover of Sports Illustrated earlier this year. That cover was reminiscent of another former prep star who made SI’s cover as a teen – LeBron James, who was still at St. Vincent-St. Mary’s when he was first featured. But the “LeBron James Decision” is different from the “Jabari Parker Decision,” mostly because Parker most likely won’t take his talents to South Beach.
Parker is supposedly considering Duke, BYU, Florida, Michigan State and Stanford as potential destinations. Gainesville is a long way from South Beach, but Parker would immediately change the dynamic of any school he picks. The Chicago star attends Simeon High School, former home of Heat star Dwyane Wade, but he is apparently not considering the Illini. Duke has produced some notable one-and-done stars before – most recently, Kyrie Irving. That is assuming that Parker’s decision is for a one-year stay, and that he will make the leap to the NBA soon after.
BYU is a dark horse candidate, because of Parker’s Mormon faith. BYU is the Notre Dame of Latter Day Saints, and Jabari Parker’s decision could be to follow his faith to Utah. He would instantly becoming BYU’s best player since current NBA role player Jimmer Fredette.
We’ll have to wait until next week to find out.
