From VIBE–When a Marsha Ambrosius record plays, you’re sure to get a telling tale of lust, love, or love lost. The British singer writes with her heart on her sleeve. Whether songs like “Far Away,” which laments on the perils of a breakup, or the sultry “Butterflies,” written for Michael Jackson, Ambrosius exposes her vulnerability with her weapon of choice: the pen.

“I pour my heart out,” Ambrosius tells VIBE. “Music is the one place I can’t hide.”

Her current single, “Cold War,” is an extension of her signature lyrics–but this time she enlists electronic producer, Diplo, for a more gritty sound. “Cold War” (co-written by Elijah Blake) is the first single to her sophomore album, Friends and Lovers, slated for a March 2013 release.

Ambrosius, who’s been living in Philadelphia for almost 13 years, says the new album will reflect some of her childhood rock-n-roll influences, without abandoning her soulful roots. Find out where the self-subscribed “Philly girl” likes to shop for vintage Chanel and get her favorite comfort food in the city of brotherly love.
