Street Art Sensation Alec Monopoly Takes Over Art Basel
While Art Basel was in full swing this week in Miami, Alec Monopoly was cementing his status as one of the most sought after artists of the event. The unidentified street artist dropped by the Flaunt Magazine’s Basic Space dinner, which was backed up by DELL at the Mondrian Hotel Saturday night. Monopoly took to tagging blank Miami walls on the streets and giving Art Basel’s most exclusive audiences a chance to witness his painting live. From exploring his artsy side with Victoria Secret model Karolina Kurkova at the Avant Gallery to presenting rapper and hip hop’s latest crush A$AP Rocky with a personalized painting, to even making a sale to Adrien Brody for one of paintings for a whopping $20,000, the the graffiti artist definitely left an impression on celebrities and socialites at Art Basel 2012.
Originally from New York City, “Alec Monopoly” is the alias name of an unidentified graffiti artist who primarily takes his art to the streets of New York, Los Angeles, London and Paris. Monopoly’s work has been covered by many editorials ranging from The Wall Street Journal, Rolling Stone Magazine, to Complex Magazine. Most recently, Monopoly joined forces with the W Hotel, pop icon Madonna and Vitamin Water, and executed live street art inspired renditions from the classic series of photographs Richard Corman captured of Madonna back in the 1980’s.
