Inspired by the John Hughes and Cameron Crowe romantic comedies of the ’80s, screenwriters Michael H. Weber and Scott Neustadter — best known for their (500) Days of Summer script — set out to make a modern day coming-of-age film like the one’s they watched growing up. The pair ended up with the script for The Spectacular Now, about two very different teens — played by Shailene Woodley and Miles Teller — who form a relationship despite being polar opposites.

Directed by James Ponsoldt, The Spectacular Now was among the first films to be acquired at Sundance 2013. Indie film studio A24 Films picked it up and plans on releasing it this summer. Watch the young cast of The Spectacular Now dish the film’s details to VIBE TV from its Sundance premiere.
