Chappelle, Rock, Hart, Bellamy & Wayans Are ‘The Master 5′
Now, you can call that TWO epic nights of comedy!
The comedy world was turned upside-down a few days ago when New York City’s famed Comedy Cellar prominently featured legends Chris Rock and Dave Chappelle working the crowd.
As you may already know, Chris Rock has already played around with the idea of him and the former Comedy Central comedic star doing a tour last May, but fans got another pleasant surprise last night with an even bigger crew.
Marlon Wayans (A Haunted House, Bill Bellamy and Kevin Hart joined Chappelle and Rock on that same Comedy Cellar stage last night (2/27) / early Thursday morning in an event that Roots’ drummer Questlove immediately dubbed “The Master 5″ on InstaGram.
If you were unfortunately to not be in New York City and/or at the Comedy Cellar to witness this momentous occurrence, Quest summed it up with the world’s most longest InstaGram caption:
“I once sat in on drums with Prince on bass, Sheila E on percussion, Frank McComb on keys, Rachelle Ferrell on vocals doing Stevie Wonder’s catalog (who incidentally was also sitting in… with Joni Mitchell & Selma Hayek as our audience) and I *think* I might have felt as high as I did tonight. I was working on the other side of the world when suddenly I got a “get yo arse down here NOW!!!!!” text. Sure enough I made it just in time to see the best night ever at the Comedy Cellar: Hannibal [Burress] was on first, then Chappelle did an amazing off-the-top bit about what life will be like in a South African jail with prosthetic legs… and the Pope quitting his career too. And then, the floodgates opened: Hart riffed on spilling drinks on Hov [Jay-Z]; then everyone got in a cipher doing a mini roast/dozens/lovefest about each other. It was honest to God like watching the comic version of [A Tribe Called Quest's] “Scenario” or [The Juice Crew's] “The Symphony”; jokes and punchlines were flying fast. Stories of way back when were told… and I had the best seat in the house (Dave told me to play piano… but I took the bench just to get a good view). Amazing night watching #TheMaster5.”
How do you feel about the name ‘The Master 5’…? Is it convincing enough to take on the road? Or would fans of the funny just want to pay to see Chris Rock and Dave Chappelle perform? Let us know below!
