Fall ’13 NY Fashion Week: DL1961 Runway Report
DL1961 Premium Denim debuted in 2008, using XFIT LYCRA denim to craft the perfect-fitting jean. It is one of New York Fashion Week’s newest design houses, so it’s still earning its stripes. But after unveiling its Fall 2013 collection, there is little doubt that the family-owned brand is (well) deserving of its slot on the schedule.
Since most designers target entire ensembles rather than bottoms, DL1961 added flair to its catwalk by opening with a choreographed dance troupe. From the sound of Rihanna’s “Diamonds” to the final walk, the fall 2013 collection delivered glitz, glam and extremely-skinny jeans. DL1961 reinforced the sleek and polished aesthetic by pairing jeans with staples like tailored blazers and leather peplum blouses.
With muted shades to suit the traditional fall palette, the house introduced leather as an accessory, reminding ladies to keep their leather pants from last fall; they’re still in. -Evette Dionne
