Workout to Try: The Pilates Chair
When the temperature drops, all we want to do is snuggle under our covers with a hot beverage and watch TV (at least I do). In fact, that’s what I wanted to do before stepping into NYC’s Chaise 23 studios about a month ago. Joined by the Pretty Girls Sweat team, I thought I’d participate in a low key Pilates routine and be on my way. Boy, was I wrong!
Our 40-minute Reinvention Method session, led by former ballerina Rachel Piskin, was one of the most intense workouts I’ve ever done. The revolutionary Pilates chair (with arm bungees above it), forces you to use your own body strength to redefine itself. Besides a bit of exhaustion, I felt rejuvenated and energized.
This is one of the many goals of Pretty Girls Sweat, a non profit organization grown out of Teen Diaries. The year old project is spawned from a fitness event that supported Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move” campaign. Keri Hilson, who hosted, was currently atop the Billboard charts with “Pretty Girl Rock,” the song that inspired the organization’s name. Since then, PGS has continued to motivate women to work out and have fun with fitness.
