Former WWE Star Dave Bautista Joins Cast Of ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’
Dave Bautista is bullying his way into the movies and his next role puts him in the prime time. Is the former WWE star ready for the spotlight?
Marvel Studios’ broke the news to The Hollywood Reporter that mixed martial artist Dave Bautista has closed his deal to play Drax the Destroyer in Guardians of the Galaxy. The highly anticipated sci-fi adventure movie, which is being directed by James Gunn, has been on many people’s “must watch” list.
Bautista has been in the running for the role since late last year, and faced stiff competition from actors such as Isaiah Mustafa, Patrick Wade and Jason Momoa. Many bloggers even pegged the Conan leading man as the person for the gig in February, but it was premature, as it turns out the former WWE champion will be going to war with Thanos.
The man who played “Brass Body” in RZA’s The Man with the Iron Fists now becomes the second actor after Chris Pratt to join the project, which has ties to The Avengers and the Phase 3 film initiative.
For those just getting turned on to all of this, Guardians centers on Peter Quill/Star-Lord (Pratt), a U.S. pilot who ends up in space in the middle of a universal conflict and goes on the run with futuristic ex-cons who have something everyone wants, according to the plot description.
As for Bautista, his character Drax, is a human resurrected as a green warrior for the sole purpose of killing Thanos (SPOILER ALERT: the villain in the final-scene tease of Avengers). His powers include flight, super-strength and energy blasts.
