The Truth About At-Home Hair Coloring
The great Spring hair color race has begun, and it’s a three-way contest between blondes, spicy reds and light browns. Which will you chose?
Because wearing your natural color is so last season we asked Ammon Carver, Matrix Artistic Director, to help us not only find the perfect shade, but provide at-home hair dying tips. Tis the season to bring out your inner blonde.
Vibe Vixen: How should you prep your hair before coloring it at home?
Ammon: Make sure to balance the porosity of your ends with Total Results Blonde Care’s Flash Filler (even if you aren’t a blonde). The leave in conditioner fills in the porous ends that can often grab hair color too quickly, resulting in a darker/flatter shade than the rest of your hair. The goal is to get all-over, even color, which really starts with the state of your hair.
VV: How important is a strand test?
Ammon: Taking a strand test is literally the ONLY way to be certain about the results of a hair color formula before you use it. Because color results are subject to many different variables (condition of the hair, medication, previous chemical services, etc), the strand test gives you a visual result of how the hair color will respond on your hair.
