UFC Champ Georges St-Pierre Cast As ‘Captain America 2′ Villain
The defending UFC welterweight champion has his next assignment planned, taking out Marvel’s first Avenger—Captain America.
Georges St-Pierre has signed on to appear in the next installment of the Captain America: The Winter Soldier where he will play a villain in the stars-and-stripes superhero movie.
First reported by the always reliable Latino Review, the news was later confirmed by Sportsnet reporter Joe Ferraro.
While this won’t be St-Pierre’s first time in front of the camera, his role in the super-powered sequel will undoubtedly be his biggest starring gig to date. The flick, which stars Chris Evans as Cap, will find St-Pierre playing villain Batroc the Leaper, an infamous mercenary in the Captain America universe. The character was created by the legendary tandem of Marvel Comics company head Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby, and first appeared on pages all the way back in 1966.
The role is a perfect fit for the UFC champ, Batroc the Leaper is a French martial artist who specializes in savate kickboxing (boxe française). Although the character has no superpowers of his own, Batroc has skillfully taken on Captain America in several memorable battles. And there was even one point where Batroc changed sides and became a hero, but as we’ll all see this April that was a short-lived transition.
