In one of the most bizarre cases of fandom, a 25-year-old Peoria, Illinois man filed a lawsuit Thursday (April 17) against former NBA MVP Derrick Rose.

According to hiphop365.com, die-hard Bulls’ fan Matthew Thompson claims Rose missing the entire 2012-2013 NBA regular season has caused him to have mental breakdowns, emotional distress and become obese. Thompson’s suit claims Rose displayed negligent behavior by refusing to return to the court, despite having been cleared by team doctors more than a month ago.

The Bulls’ standout point guard has been rehabbing an ACL injury he endured almost exactly one year ago, during the 2011-2012 playoffs. His overcautious approach to returning, has pestered Bulls fans throughout the season. Despite his absence, the Bulls secured the fifth seed in this year’s playoffs and will face off against the Brooklyn Nets in Round One tonight from Brooklyn’s Barclays Center.

Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau has explained to reporters that Rose is not quite ready, but did not rule out a possible return. Thompson’s claims will more than likely be deemed a frivolous lawsuit, due to its lack of legal merit.
