The flyest dude in America. Just call him Pharrell Williams—unless you go by the name Jay-Z. Then, you can call him “for Real.”

Pharrel x Jay-Z
Pharrell (left) and Jay-Z—two dapper gentleman talking business backstage at one of Hov’s Barclays shows last September.

It’s a fitting nickname, too. Since bombarding the scene with bombastic beats in the early 2000s—shoutout to The Neptunes—Pharrell has been a nonstop rocketship on a metoric musical rise. From tunes to clothes—oh man, those clothes—this man is truly a vision of success. One that, for most of us, has been our go-to source for tailoring our steez and throwing up Star Trek gang signs, even if you can’t properly namedrop the actor who plays Mr. Spock.

Leonard Simon Nimoy—American actor, film director, poet, singer and photographer. Oh, and Mr. Spock.

In the beginning, Pharrell’s style was very…we’ll call it “the black Ashton Kutcher” steez. He was simply skater cool, and had a damn ramp in his living room. No words. See below:

As the years went on, so did the evolution of Pharrell’s sense of style. He literally propelled himself into space, and all we wanted to do was follow along for the ride.

In recent times, the fashion genius has collaborated with artist Michael Kagan for some pretty dope space-age pieces, launched BBC’s 2013 Spring/Summer looks, and will be on board as a designer for Japan’s king of cool, NIGO, as he launches the super exclusive BAPE 20th Anniversary collection. Oh, and it’s only the beginning of April you guys.

If Billionaire Boys Club/Ice Cream, I am OTHER—his social network for creatives, like the hilarious webseries Awkward Black Girl—or any of his many platforms of success aren’t a testament of his greatness, the following 10 photos of him should make you a believer.

Mr. Williams, we salute you on your 40th birthday. Even if we’re a day late.—Keenan Higgins (@HIGzILLMATIC)
