Arlene Castro, Daughter of Suspected Cleveland Kidnapper Speaks Out
The daughter of Ariel Castro, accused of kidnapped three Cleveland women–Amanda Berry, 27, Michele Knight, 32, and Gina DeJesus, 23–broke down in tears this morning (May 9) on Good Morning America. “I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry for everything,” Arlene Castro cried, referencing the decade-long crime.
The 22-year-old says that she had “no idea” that her father was hiding the women in his home. “We were never really that close,” she said. “Every time we would talk it would just be short conversations.”
Arlene says that she has never met Jocelyn, the little girl who is suspected to be the child from her father and his abductee Amber Berry.
Police statements have confirmed that Castro repeatedly raped and beat all three of the victims, even causing Knight to suffer five different miscarriages due to the brutal attacks and starving her while she was pregnant. Castro forced Knight to deliver Berry’s baby in a kiddie pool on December 25, 2006 and threatened to kill her if the baby didn’t survive.
A handwritten note discovered in his house by the FBI reveals that Castro was aware that he needed help. In the letter, he claims that he was sexually abused as a child by his uncle, and he wished to commit suicide because of his horrendous actions. Ariel Castro has been charged with four counts of kidnapping and three counts of rape. — Terry Carter
