West Coast maestro DJ Mustard is having a pretty good week. Truth be told, the producer didn’t score a number one hit or break any new records, but the news of his freshly signed management deal with Roc Nation is the cause of celebration.

“My lawyer had been in talks with Jay Brown from Roc Nation for a long time,” Mustard tells VIBE. “But I wasn’t really rushing into getting a manager because I’ve always moved on my own. Roc brings something new to the table, though. Things I can’t do on my own.”

Fans of his 808 and clap heavy beats shouldn’t worry about his the Roc changing his sound. Mustard says he has no plans of catering to anyone. He tells VIBE that his new partnership is strictly a management deal.

“Nobody can’t change me,” Mustard explains. “I’m a firm believer in sticking to my guns. I got where I am because of what I do, not what they want me to do. It’s just about getting bigger and better opportunities. “

While his own as-of-yet titled mixtape is set for June 3 release, the “Rack City” producer says he plans to get in the studio with Rihanna after she wraps up her “Diamonds” tour. And, of course, the Cali native says a Jay-Z collaboration is on the horizon.
