Exclusive: Stalley Talks Keri Hilson Collaboration, New Album And Starting His Own Label
Kyle Myricks, better known as Stalley, is speechless. After performing several hits from his catalog in front of a raucous crowd in Brooklyn, the 30-year-old rapper is still reveling over the fact that he is doing his life’s passion.
“It’s been a lifetime goal of mine to do what I’m doing right now,” the Maybach Music signee told VIBE. “The music has been coming together great and I’m in a great situation right now.”
“Swangin,” the first single to be released from Stalley’s upcoming album, features legendary rapper Scarface and is set to include “a dream cast” of collaborations including R&B singer/songwriter Keri Hilson.
“I got a record with Keri HIlson and I got some other ones that I can’t really name until things are finished,” he says, bashfully. “Every record that I have [on the album] is still open.”
Drawing inspiration from his stint on tour with Kendrick Lamar and Top Dawg Entertainment last summer, Stalley also says that being able to travel around the country and witness the crowd’s response to his music prompted his decision to release the album now.
“I seen that they was ready,” he said “and I was like ‘okay it’s time.'”
While he is often referenced as the fourth teammate, spitting alongside MMG’s big three (Rick Ross, Wale and Meek Mill), the Ohio rep is pushing his game to the forefront by launching his own record label Blue Collar Gang. Allowing one of his artists Vada to perform a track titled “Polo On My Body” during his set, Stalley says his roster will allow him to help like-minded individuals make the music that they want to make.
“We got a few artists on there with similar backgrounds as myself,” he says. “We’re going to officially make a big announcement about it but I just want people to be happy doing what they want to do.”
Stalley’s debut album remains untitled and is expected to be released in late 2013.
