‘Girl Meets World’ Set To Begin Production
Boy Meets World golden couple Cory Matthews and Topanga Lawrence are back as parents in the spin-off series Girl Meets World.
The show, set to hit small screens next year, will begin production this summer in Los Angeles after Disney Channel gave it an official series order, according to Vulture.
With the return of the original BMW cast members Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel, Girl Meets World centers around the ’90s beloved twosome’s daughter Riley (played by Rowan Blanchard) and her best friend Maya (Sabrina Carpenter) as she faces the trials and tribulations of middle school adolescence.
Set in New York, the series shows Cory as a history teacher and Topanga as the business owner of a popular after-school hangout that Riley frequents. Original series creators Michael Jacobs and April Kelly also reunite on the new project, determined to bring the same foundation and creative storytelling viewers fell in love with during the show’s run from 1993 to 2000.
“Girl Meets World is a new show for a new generation that will be rooted in the same kind of honest, comedic storytelling about coming of age and the importance of family and friendship that made Boy Meets World so popular,” Jacobs said in a statement.
Former Boy Meets World stars may also make an appearance including Will Friedle (Cory’s older brother Eric), Rider Strong (Shawn), William Daniels (Mr. George Feeny), and Sister Sister’s own Jackée Harry.
