Today is National HIV Testing Day, Do You Know Your Status?
Every nine and a half minutes someone becomes infected with HIV. Sadly, African American communities have been hit the hardest by the disease with approximately 46% of those living with HIV/AIDS being Black.
The statistics and facts are clear—early detection saves lives. National HIV Testing Day is only one day a year, but protecting yourself and living a healthy lifestyle is an everyday commitment. Will you commit to the cause?
Today (June 27), we partner with Hydeia Broadbent, an HIV/AIDS activist and public speaker, to stress the importance of HIV testing.
“People think because I was born with HIV my story does not apply to them,” she says. “Well this same disease I am living with is the same disease you can get if you don’t practice safe sex and know your HIV status and the HIV status of your sexual partner. I ask people to use my testimony as a warning of what you don’t want to go through.”
