Jay-Z Concert In Midtown Gets Shut Down
The city decided that midtown still isn’t ready for a free Jay-Z concert at the Ed Sullivan Theater July 8.
After getting the OK from Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s office, the city suddenly decided to rescind the request. “The mayor’s office approved it, and then just like that it got denied,” one police source said, according to The New York Post. This might stir feelings of deja vu for Jigga since he attempted to host a concert for the first time in 2010.
A meeting with Jay, the city and the NYPD was scheduled to work out the remaining concert details at the Late Show with David Letterman but never happened.
A police source also told The Post, “It’s because of the holiday weekend. They were concerned about fireworks and terrorism.”
