Jay-Z Talks Fighting With Kanye West Over ‘Magna Carta’ Songs, Working With Timbaland And More With BBC
After securing his first chart-topper in the U.K. with Magna Carta Holy Grail, Hov has been making waves across the pond with fellow tour mate Justin Timberlake for the Wireless Festival and his Legends of the Summer tour, set to kick off this Wednesday in Toronto. While the music mogul has been flaunting his expensive tastes on wax, he makes his press rounds, this time, rocking the mic with BBC’s Zane Lowe.
One nugget from the sit-down was Shawn getting into a verbal spat with Watch The Throne collaborator Kanye West over several records on MCHG.
“We had this whole plan when me and Kanye did [the] Watch the Throne album that we would go right into our solos after that. Soon as I thought we had wrapped up Watch the Throne, I made two records — I had ‘Holy Grail’ and ‘Oceans.’ So we spent four days arguing about those records, and I was explaining to him why it wasn’t right for [that] project. Well, there was some pushing at one point, but not between us. Just everyone else got a little excited,” he told Lowe.
Listen to the first bites of the four-part interview below where he reveals which Magna Carta tracks were WTT left-overs, discusses reconnecting with Timbaland, the story behind the epic “BBC” collaboration and more.
