Jay-Z Nabs First No. 1 In UK With ‘Magna Carta’
Alongside his platinum plaque for selling a million digital copies of his twelfth studio effort Magna Carta Holy Grail his first day out in the U.S., Jay-Z has now attained his first chart-topping title across the pond.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Official Charts Company, which compiles the British charts, said the album outsold Rod Stewart’s Time and Mumford and Sons’ Babel.
With seven previous solo albums hitting the Top 40 in Britain, Hov has never reached the number one spot on the UK Official Album Chart till now. His highest entry on the British charts was his collaboration with Kanye West, Watch The Throne, which peaked at number three in 2011. Jay-Z’s solo effort, Blueprint III, made it to number four in 2009.
This news comes after a stellar performance at the Wireless Festival in London with Justin Timberlake, along with an open video shoot for “Picasso Baby” at West Side Manhattan’s Pace Gallery.—Andrew Asare
