Rookies Lead WNBA in Jerseys Sold This Season
Three rookies currently have the top-selling jerseys in the entire WNBA.
Prior to the the start of the 2013 season, the WNBA heavily marketed Tulsa guard Skylar Diggins, Chicago Sky forward Elena Delle Donne and Phoenix Mercury center Brittany Griner as ‘3 to See’ and it seems the league’s promotion paid off. According to national merchandise sales including WNBAStore.com, Griner leads all players in jerseys sold since the start of the 2013 season.
Her rookie counterparts have fared considerably well for their individual teams, following highly successful collegiate careers. Griner appears to be in the lead for Rookie Of the Year honors, despite missing out on this year’s All-Star Game. The 2013 number one draft pick is averaging close to 15 points-per-game and just over 6 rebounds in 12 starts this season.
Minnesota Lynx forward Maya Moore ranks fourth on the list this year, after having the most popular jersey in the league for the past two seasons. —Christopher Harris
