Celebrity Designer Marco Hall Talks Upcoming NYFW Show and What Every Vixen Should Have in Her Closet
Celebrity designer Marco Hall is known in fashion circles as the artist who makes magic with fabric. He can conceptualize and create a red-carpet dress in the time it takes you to get your get face ‘beat’ and your hair styled. Maybe less.
We have personally witnessed the transformation of two yards, cut free-hand, into perfectly form-fitting couture genius. (Think body suits, seamless hi-lo dresses and avant grade, how-in-the-heck-do-I-get-this-on fashion cover wear.)
With his innate ability to create and a design aesthetic that rivals high-end fashion houses, Hall has become a go-to-designer in both indie and celebrity fashion circles. His work has been featured in just about every print magazine you can name, including Vogue Paris, Harper’s Bazaar Japan, Ebony, URB Magazine, and even Vixen.
While he’s dressed the likes of Rihanna, Natalie Cole, Tiffany Foxx, LaLa Vazquez, Vivica Fox, Erykah Badu and Olympic medalist Gabbie Douglas, he’s most excited to share his work with everyday Vixens.
Vixen chatted with Hall about his upcoming Spring/Summer 2014 LOLA collection preview presented by the Blackout Awards, who he wants to dress next and what every Vixen should have in her closet.
VIBE Vixen: What was your inspiration for your upcoming Spring/Summer collection?
Marco Hall: Well, the show is inspired by Lola Falana. She was very ahead of her time, so I wanted to take that bohemia look to another level. This Lola is very galactic and futuristic.
VV: You’re known for being avant grade and taking risks. What should we expect to see?
MH: Expect to see lots of crazy head dresses, lots of volume and sequins. It’s going to be over the the top. I’m going back to my roots with this. Before I was doing a lot more structure and focusing on shoulders. This collection is more easy going focused on movement, lots of georgettes and draping.
VV: Who would you like to dress next?
MH: “I dress the world, so everyone is a celebrity to me. It’s really about seeing my garments move in real life and in terms. Dressing celebrities is great, but it’s the real people who make Marco Hall go around.
VV: What should every Vixen have in their closet?
MH: Besides the standard little black dress, every Vixen should have a white button down shirt because it can go with everything. You can can dress it up or dress down, drape it with pearls or a tie. You can show your cleavage or wear with a tie. And, if it’s big enough, you can put a belt around your waist and wear it as a shirt dress.
Marco Hall’s “LOLA” collection previews this Thursday, September 12, 7pm at Taj Lounge, located at 48 West 21st Street in NYC. Want to attend? RSVP now via RSVPLOLA14@gmail.com.
