Rick Ross is the fuel that America runs on. It’s evident when you witness the larger-than-life mogul perform in an intimate venue such as Gramercy Theater on the night of his roster’s Self Made, Vol. 3 compilation album release. Before he even grabs hold of the mic, the DJ hyping up the crowd has already ran through half of his and MMG’s catalog, and you ain’t even mad at it.
A pre-dominantly male audience piled into the 23rd street venue Tuesday night (Sept. 17), eager to flail their arms upwards and catch a glimpse of the self-proclaimed Bawse. After opening with his shit-talking anthem “No Games” and then plowing his way through his verse on Jay Z-helmed “F-ckwithmeyouknowigotit,” Rozay slows down the tempo for the ladies with a medley of slow jams including “Diced Pineapples” and “Take It To The Head” before letting the male groupies loose with live renditions of street bangers like “Box Chevy” and “B.M.F.”
Maybach Music’s newer recruits Rockie Fresh and Stalley also took to the stage only for a World Star Hip Hop-esque brawl to steal the spotlight. Not long after the Electric Highway MC’s performance was the curtain pulled. Still, Rawse’s performance embodied the essence of self-made: the show must go on.
