Spring '14 NY Fashion Week: Harlem Fashion Row

For the past six years, Brandice Henderson and the Harlem Fashion Row have worked to change the devasting number of black designers available on the mainstream market. Counting for less than 1%, the journey from underground to New York Fashion Week is still a challenge, but paved with hope thanks to this organization and this year’s featured designers: Sandro Romans, Kahindo Mateene, Kimberly Goldson and Diedre Jefferies.

A dizzying mix of prints, colors and simplistic ensembles, backstage was a clash of the fashion titans as models ran to and fro, getting pulled, pushed, manicured and made into a designer’s dream. All of the models, diverse in size, shape and race, had their hair styled by Keith Campbell with products brown girls everywhere can buy and love. Dark and Lovely Curl Defining Creme Glaze gave the girls perfectly slicked back hair while JAM! custard kept ponytails, buns and braids in place. Finishing off the varying looks with shine and moisture were Soft Sheen and Carson Optimum Care sheen spray.
