What started off as a blog experiment turned into a wild auction that has ended with Warner Bros. as the winner of an interesting new film.

In an exclusive to Deadline, Warner Bros. acquired the screen rights to 40 Days of Dating, a running blog compiled by New York designers Jessica Walsh and Timothy Goodman. Originally, the site was an experiment started by the two friends who found themselves single at the same time. Walsh, a serial monogamist, and Goodman, a commitment-phobe, dated exclusively for 40 days to try and overcome their relationship issues.

Warner Bros. already has Michael Sucsy (The Vow) down as the director, and Lorene Scafaria (Seeking A Friend For The End Of The World) will write the script. Life rights for Walsh and Goodman are also part of the package.

The blog which struck lightning on the web and in the industry with the likes of Reese Witherspoon, Josh Schwartz and Michael Costigan (American Gangster) were all over this one in a wild auction bid. Will this spark a new trend in Hollywood?
