Devon Franklin, Karen Civil, and Yandy Smith to Head Howard University’s Homecoming ‘Entertainment Power Summit’
Howard Homecoming is an ephemeral flash-back for some but a lifetime of memories for everyone who attends. The University is not just hip-hop’s favorite, but a symbol of black excellence within the education system in America. That’s why alum Jamal Minor felt the importance of incorporating education in the school’s week long celebration.
Minor left Howard in 2010 for a brief stint as Project Manager for BadBoy’s DiddyDirtyMoney’s Last Train To Paris album. Upon returning to the University in 2011 with a new outlook on his future, Minor worked tirelessly to create an educational event that would spark the same amount of enthusiasm as the school’s popular Yardfest festivities.
Last year Minor proposed, planned, sought sponsorship for the university’s first education-based event. Entitled “Dream Day”, Minor alongside the homecoming committee hosted a day long event of panel discussions featuring Angela and Vanessa Simmons, Fonzworth Bentley, Amir Windom, Datwon Thomas, Necole Bitchie, and many other industry power heads.
Exceeding even his own expectations, this year Minor will execute the second installment of the now titled, Entertainment Power Summit (EPS) featuring Bobette Gillette (Director of Corporate Partnerships of BET), John Kennedy (Music Editor of VIBE), and Johann Morris (Marketing Manager of Black Enterprise) among many others are on the bill.
